VC appoint 2012



His Excellency the President has re-appointed Professor Sarath Amunugama as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya for a period of three years with effect from July 23rd, 2012.

Professor Sarath Amunugama, an old boy of Kingswood College Kandy, commenced his higher studies at the University of Peradeniya and pursued further studies at the University of Sorbonne in Paris where he obtained his Masters and doctoral degrees. Then, in 1980 he joined the University of Kelaniya as a Lecturer in French. He held administrative positions such as Head of Department of Modern Languages and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities in the University of Kelaniya for several years before assuming duties as the founder Vice-Chancellor of the newly established University of the Visual and Performing Arts in 2005.Professor Amunugama, a well-known scholar in French was honoured by the Government of France by conferring the title of Chevalier for Academic Excellence in 1998.

Professor Amunugama, has been serving as the Vice-Chancellor of University of Kelaniya since 2009.
