Youth Conference on International Relations-2017

The Youth Conference organized by the International Studies Students’ Association was held on the 5th of July 2017 at the Social Sciences Auditorium of the University of Kelaniya.

The purpose of this conference was to gather the intellectual viewpoints of the undergraduates of the University of Colombo, the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and the University of Kelaniya. Fifty-eight undergraduates representing fifty-eight countries researched and provided resolutions regarding Terrorism. They were divided into five groups and given five topics; Religious Fundamental and Nationalism, Cyber Terrorism, Human Rights Aspect in Terrorism, Weapons of Mass Destruction in Terrorism and State-Sponsored Terrorism. Finally, the Award for the Best policy paper was awarded to the group that presented resolutions regarding the “Weapons of Mass Destruction in Terrorism”.

The keynote speech on “Types of Terrorism” was delivered by Major General Udaya Perera, Sri Lanka’s Former Deputy High Commissioner to Malaysia and Former Commandant of Defense Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC). The event was participated by Prof. Upali Hettiarachchi, Head of the Department of Economics, Lieutenant Colonel Chaminda Tennakoon, Senior lecturer Ms. Thumira Gunasena, Senior Treasurer of the International Studies Students’ Association, academic, non-academic staff members and many undergraduates.
