The “Unique Multi-Storey Building Complex Project” is an approved project by the cabinet of Ministers of Sri Lankan Government for strengthening the Institutional capacity of all the faculties of the University. It plans to facilitate infrastructure, which includes the multipurpose building complex to aim at connecting the University to an extended stakeholder Community. The plans are under way to construct the “Unique Multi–Storey Building Complex” at the current premises of Sri Dharmaloka Convocation Hall. The construction will commence by the end of 2017 and it is expected to complete by the end of 2020.
Accordingly, the Alumni Association, Management Committee and the Task Force of the University of Kelaniya organized the First Meeting to fundraise for the construction of the “Unique Multi–Storey Building Complex” on the 19th of July at Senate Room. At this event, a Savings Account was opened to raise and deposit money for the construction of the Building Complex.
The cost of the construction is estimated to be Rs. 1600 million and the Government will co-share 50% of it. Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, the Vice Chancellor of the University allocated a sum of Rs.200 million from the Vice Chancellors’ Fund and the Alumni of the university including Dr. Udaya Basnayake, Mr. Gamage, the owner of Irosha Shopping center, Mr. Sanjeewa, the Manager of the Sandagiri Institution, W. Weeraratne, the Coordinator of the project donated a sum of Rs. 100,000 (each one) for the Building Complex Project.
