The GreenSpire Club, affiliated with the Centre for Sustainability Solutions (CSS) at the University of Kelaniya, in collaboration with the Center for Beach Cleanups, Sri Lanka, successfully organized a major volunteer event on July 26, 2025, at Crow Island Beach.
The Master of Information Technology Program 2025, conducted by the Department of Industrial Management, University of Kelaniya, commenced on a high note with the successful inauguration of its 7th intake on the 26th of July 2025. Held at the Department Auditorium., the ceremony was enriched by the presence of Senior Professor Sudath Kalingamudali, Dean of the Faculty of Science, who encouraged students to embrace both the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead in their academic path.
The diploma and higher diploma awarding ceremony for the Higher Diploma in Communication and Public Relations, Diploma in Mass Communication, and Diploma in Public Relations and Media Management, offered by the Department of Mass Communication, University of Kelaniya, was successfully held on 27th July 2025 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Rasara Wijesuriya, a third-year undergraduate of the Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya, following the BSc Honours in Sports Science, set a new Sri Lankan record in the Women’s 10,000 metres with a remarkable time of 32:52.20 on the 21st of July 2025 at the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games – Summer. She secured 8th place in the finals, marking the highest-ever placement by a Sri Lankan athlete in the history of the World University Games.
The “Announcing Workshop 2025”, jointly organized by the Art Council of the University of Kelaniya and the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC), was successfully held from July 14 to 18, 2025, at the SLBC premises.
The Certificate Awarding of the Junior Staff Development Programme of the Faculty of Social Sciences for the academic years 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 was held on July 15, 2025, at the Dean’s Office of Faculty of Social Sciences.
A One-Day Workshop, conducted as part of the ongoing “Young Journalist” training workshop series, organized by the Communication and Media Unit, University of Kelaniya, was successfully held on July 18, 2025, at the Studio of the Department of Mass Communication, University of Kelaniya. The workshop was conducted under the theme “Towards a Responsible and Ethical Media Culture.”
Demonstrating its strong commitment to fostering inclusive leadership and institutional harmony, the University of Kelaniya recently hosted a landmark Training of Trainers workshop titled “Learning to Live with Diversity.” The program was jointly organized by the Centre for Social Reconciliation of the University of Kelaniya and the Centre for Gender Equity and Equality of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

The Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology (PGIAR) was established on the 1st January 1986, by order dated 18th December 1985, under section 24A of the Universities Act No. 16 of 1978 by the University Grants Commission. The PGIAR is a Postgraduate Institute of the University of Kelaniya. It is the prime institution for postgraduate studies and research in archaeology and subjects related to archaeology in the country.

The Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies (PGIPBS) of the University of Kelaniya was known as the Vidyalankara Institute of Buddhist Studies since its inception on 23rd November 1975 until 30th December 1979. Then, it was affiliated to the Vidyalankara Campus of the University of Ceylon (Sri Lanka). Its present name, status, and structure derived from the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies Ordinance No.8 of 1977, which came into operation on 1st January 1980.
