The Inter-School ‘Green Innovation’ Competition organized by the Environmental Conservation & Management Society of the University of Kelaniya was held on 30th of October 2017 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Science, the University of Kelaniya.
The competition was organized with the intention of encouraging schoolchildren to invent new eco-friendly products, obtaining suggestions from schoolchildren to solve current environmental issues and to encourage the schoolchildren to protect the environment.
The event was graced by Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. B.M. (Ms.) Jayawardena, the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Dr. G.A.S.M. Ganehiarachchi, the Head of the Department of Zoology and Environmental Management. The event was also participated by the lecturers of the university, schoolteachers, undergraduates and many schoolchildren.
J.M. Lahiru Kavinda from Dharmaraja College, Kandy was placed first in the solo category. The team of the Dharmasoka College, Galle won the first place in the Group category who presented the new products for the competition. The awards and certificates were presented to the winners by the Vice-Chancellor of the university.
