The Staff Development Centre (SDC) of the University of Kelaniya commenced the 19th Cycle of its “Induction Programme for Academic Staff Members of Sri Lankan Universities” on the 10th of November 2017. About 48 probationary lecturers from the universities of Kelaniya, Vocational Technology, Colombo, Sabaragamuwa, Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka and Buddhist & Pali University of Sri Lanka who have been enrolled in the current programme participated in this inauguration ceremony.
The successful completion of the induction programme, which is accredited by the University Grants Commission (UGC), fulfills the requirements for newly recruited staff members to successfully complete a staff development programme for purposes of confirmation in their positions as stipulated by the UGC. A large number of probationary lecturers from other universities and higher educational institutes have successfully completed this programme in the past years.
Prof. Lakshman Seneviratne, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya graced the event as the chief guest, made a special mention of the social traits to be developed by a university lecturer for the betterment of the University and the entire society.
Mr. W.M. Karunaratne, the Registrar of the University of Kelaniya, Dr. Bandara Wanninayake, Director of the Staff Development Centre, Dr. Nalaka Wickramasinghe, Dr. Kusum Herath and Dr. Chamli Pushpakumara were also participated in this event.
This is the 19th Cycle of the Staff Development programme conducted by the SDC of the University of Kelaniya since its inception in 1998. The SDC of the University of Kelaniya is the first SDC to obtain the ISO 9001-2015 accreditation from the Sri Lanka Standards Institution.
