The 1st International Studies Students’ Research Symposium 2017

The Department of International Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Kelaniya marked another remarkable milestone in organizing the 1st International Studies Students’ Research Symposium 2017. The symposium was successfully held on the 28th of November 2017 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences. The theme of the symposium was ‘Beyond the Borders: Qualitative Approach Towards Contemporary Global Trends and Issues’, which brought together a total number of 35 research papers on the tracks of International Politics, Maritime Security, Migration, Contemporary Global Trends and Global Crises.

The symposium was to promote qualitative research and qualitative research methods among undergraduates while improving their academic and analytical skills. A detailed lecture on “Qualitative Research and Data Analysis” was delivered by Prof. W. Indralal De Silva, Executive Director (Acting), Regional Centre for Strategic Studies, former Chair Professor of Demography and former Dean of the Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo.

Prof. Lakshman Senevirathne, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. A.H.M.H. Abayarathne, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Cadre Chair of Medical Micro Biology & Chairman of Research Council Senior Prof. N.P Sunil-Chandra, Senior Lecturer Ms. Thumira Gunasena, Head of the Department of International Studies, Heads of other academic Departments of the Faculty of Social Sciences, academic staff of the faculty and many undergraduates were also present at this symposium.
