The Third volume and Fourth volume of ‘PRAGNĀSĀRA’; the Academic Journal published by Bhikkhus’ Association of University of Kelaniya was launched at a Ceremony held on the 4th of January 2018 at auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Bhikkhus’ Association publishes this academic journal annually with the objective of spreading Vidyalankara academic discipline and intellectual practice beyond the edge of the University of Kelaniya.
The academic articles on the subjects of Sinhala Literature, Pali, Sanskrit, Philosophy, Buddhist Culture, Buddhist Philosophy, History, Archeology, Sociology, Library & Information Science, Hindi, English and Image Arts are included in these two ‘PRAGNĀSĀRA’ academic journals. Most of the articles are written by monks who are currently reading for Degree Programmes in the University of Kelaniya.
Ven. Demunnewe Upali Thero who is a third year undergraduate reading for (Special) Degree in Library and Information Science and Sagama Anomadassi Thera who is also a third year undergraduate reading for (Special) Degree in Pali, are the Editors of ‘PRAGNĀSĀRA’ 3rd Volume while its Chief Consultant Editor is Senior Lecturer Ven. Legundeniye Piyarathana Thera, Head of the Department of Library & Information Science.
Ven. Mandaramnuwara Sumangala Thera who is a third year undergraduate reading for (Special) Degree in Archeology and Ven. Demunnewe Upali Thera who is also a third year undergraduate reading for (Special) Degree in Library & Information Science, are the Editors of ‘PRAGNĀSĀRA’ 4th Volume while Senior Lecturer Ven. Kumbukkandana Rewatha Thera is its Consultant Editor.
The event was held under the patronage of Thripitaka Vagishvaracharya, Mahopadhyaya, Pandith, the most Venerable Welamitiyawe Dharmakirthi Sri Kusala Dhamma Thera, – the Chief Prelate of the Colombo and Chilaw regions and Chancellor of University of Kelaniya. The event was graced by Professor Lakshman Senevirathne, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. A.H.M.H. Abayarathne, Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Patrick Ratnayake, Dean of Faculty of Humanities, Mr. W.M. Karunaratne, Registrar, many monks and invitees. The event was also participated by Heads and other academic staff of the Departments of Faculty of Social Sciences and Faculty Humanities, undergraduates of the Department of Library & Information Science and other academic Departments.
