A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony with the Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales –INALCO (National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilisation) in Paris, France was held on the 9th of January 2018 at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office under the auspices of Professor D.M. Semasinghe, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya.
INALCO is a unique higher education institution that offers study programmes on around 100 languages in the world including Sinhala. Former Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Paris Ms. Shobhini Gunasekara was instrumental in this cooperation through the Centre for International Affairs of University of Kelaniya. Exchange of academic staff and students, joint research and collaborative projects are envisaged through the new partnership.
The signing was witnessed by Professor Patrick Ratnayake, Dean Faculty of Humanities, Mr. W. M. Karunarathne, Registrar, Professor Neelakshi C. Premawardhena, Director, International Affairs and Ms. Sashini Chandrasekara, Coordinator, International Cooperation.
