Regional Orientation Programmes for new entrants to the University (academic year 2016/17)

The Regional Orientation Programmes for new entrants to the University of Kelaniya (academic year 2016/17) were commenced recently. Marking its commencement, the Regional Orientation Programme for new entrants from Ratnapura District was successfully held on the 18th of January 2018 at Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council Secretariat Auditorium with the participation of many new entrants and their parents. The second Regional Orientation Programme was held on the 23rd of January at K.C.P. Hall in Kadawatha.
The focus was on addressing the new entrants on how to face the challenges they undergo during their university life. In addition, it was emphasized the importance of being involved in extracurricular activities. The programme could encourage the new entrants, arouse their curiosity and blossom their desires about the University.
This programme was organised by Student’s Welfare Division together with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s Office of the University. The programme was held under the patronage of Senior Professor Lakshman Senevirathne Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University. The event was graced by Venerable Dr. Kapugollawe Anandakiththi Thera, Chief Student Counsellor, Professor Rohana Luxman Piyadasa, Director of the Communication & Media Unit, Dr. Susima Weligamage, Director of Student Counselling Unit (Kalana Mithuru Sevana), Dr. Chamaru De Alwis, Director of the Career Guidance Unit, Dr. D.V.A.D. Kraunarathna, Director of the Extra-Curricular Activity Management Unit, Dr. Ajith Disanayake of the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences, Mr. H.D.S.P. Wijayagunaratne, Physical Education Instructor and several non-academic staff members of the University.
The Regional Orientation programmes are expected to be held in 8 different places around the country. Accordingly, the programmes will be held on the 1st of February 2018 at Postal Complex Auditorium in Kandy, 2nd of February at Urban Council Hall in Bandarawela, 6th of February 2018 at Municipal Council Hall in Kurunegala, 7th of February 2018 at Niwaththakachethiya Vidyalaya in Anuradhapura and 9th of February 2018 at National Youth Services Council, Maharagama. The programme which was to be held on the 25th of January 2018 at the Municipal Council Hall at Weligama in Matara was postponed due to an unavoidable reason. The new date of the programme will be notified in due course.
