‘Upanetha 2017’ – the Photography, Television and Cinema Exhibition organised by the Drama Theater and Image Arts Unit attached to the Department of Fine Arts of the Faculty of Humanities, University of Kelaniya was held on the 07th and 8th of February 2018 at Sri Dharmaloka Convocation Hall of the University of Kelaniya.
‘Upanetha 2017’ was held for the 20th consecutive year and it was presented as an academic procedure of the fourth year undergraduates of the Department of Fine Arts where 08 undergraduates presented their piece of work. Accordingly, Prasanna Madusanka presented a collection of photographs while Oshan Yapa presented ‘Awaradhaloka’ short film and Malashani Jayasinghe presented ‘Karakena Jeewitha’ short film. In addition, the ‘Pankaja” documentary film by Ishara Dulanjana, the documentary film “DELFT” by Shammi Srilal, ‘Hasthi Wasthra’ documentary film by Nishadi Kanchana, ‘Rust Life’ documentary film by Chapa Jayewardene and ‘Hajime’ documentary film by Dhanushka Karunarathne.
The event was held under the patronage of Professor Patrick Ratnayake, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and the Guest of Honour was Mr. M.D. Mahindapala who is a well-known photographer in Sri Lanka. The event was graced by Senior Lecturer Mr. Aruna Lokuliyana, Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Senior Lecturer Mr. Priyankara Rathnayake, Unit Head of Drama & Theatre and Performing Arts Unit, academic staff members of the Department of Fine Arts and other academic Departments, non-academic staff members and many undergraduates.
