37 Confucius Scholarships to the University of Kelaniya

36 undergraduates and one graduate of the University of Kelaniya received an opportunity to win the scholarships offered by the Confucius Institute Headquarters in China. This is a significant opportunity, since 37 out of 53 awards were owned by the University of Kelaniya.

These scholarships were presented under three categories; scholarships by the Confucius Institute, scholarships by the Government of the People’s Republic of China and scholarships for South Asia. 36 undergraduates of the University of Kelaniya received the opportunity to follow one year and six month courses while one graduate received the opportunity to follow Master of Arts (Two Year) degree programme. They are to follow their courses at the Chongqing Normal University, Southwest University, Tianjin Normal University, Yunnan Normal University, Guizhou University, Honghe University, Xiamen University and Beijing Language and Culture University.

The scholarship awards ceremony was held on the 20th of August 2018 at the Senate Room of the university and Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, Vice- Chancellor of the University graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Moreover, Prof. Patrick Rathnayake, Dean- Faculty of Humanities, Senior Lecturer Dr. Kumari Jayasooriya, Director- Confucius Institute and its Co- Director, Prof. Wang Wanxia also participated in the event.
