  SOSAA  - International Conference on Archaeology in 2010

   The 3rd International Congress of the Society of South Asian Archaeology (SOSAA) will be hosted by the Centre in mid 2010 at the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka.  Exact dates of the Congress and other details will be posted shortly on this page. 

  Ananda  Coomaraswamy Memorial Seminar on 9 September 2008  

 

Seminar on Asian Art in memory of Dr. Ananda Coomaraswamy on his 62nd death anniversary will be held at the University of Kelaniya on 9th September 2008. Dr. Roland Silva, Prof. Nimal de Silva, Dr. Hema Gunatilake, Mr. Sirinimal Lakdusingha, Prof. Chandra Wickramagamage, Prof. Senake Bandaranayake and Prof. Sunanda Mahendra are among the distinguished speakers for this occasion

Guest Lecture series- 2008

Following  lectures were delivered during the period

1."The traces of Burma's relationship with Sri Lanka in the 13th century late Patan Buddhist paintings” on 22nd May 2008 by Prof. Samerchai Poolsuwan , Department of Social Anthropology, Thamasath University, Thailand.

 

2.“DNA analysis in ancient human remains” on 22nd May 2008  by Prof. Patcharee Letrit, Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, Thailand.

                                  

                                             New premises at the Faculty of Social Sciences

The Centre was given an office premises at K3-017, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya with an inaugural ceremony held on 13th August 2008 at the University. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jayantha Wejeyaratna, declared open the premises on the  invitation of Prof. Sunanda Madduma Bandara, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and a large number of   University staff witnessed the event. Two more centres, the Media Unite  and the IUCM of the University were also given room facilities along with the Centre for Asian Studies on that auspicious  day.
