The Sri Lanka's economy has now become more market oriented and a competitive economy in all aspects after following liberalized economic policies for the last three decades. In this setting, particularly, the employment structure of the economy has been drastically changed.  As a result, more secured employments in the public sector are not now substantially found, and the private sector has become the largest employer of the economy. The private sector is interested in recruiting more skilled managers, accountants etc who can be easily amenable to the challenging situations.

In this scenario, the faculty of Commerce and Management Studies of the University of Kelaniya through its various departments has revised its almost all the degree programmes and introduced a number of new study programmes on  such subjects as Finance, Entrepreneurship and Business Technology to be consistent with the current and the future demand for Commerce and Management graduates.
