Activity 01: Strengthening Teaching/Learning through Verb-Outcome base curriculum development and delivery, and accreditation through ISO certification

Objectives

  1. To develop a curriculum, and an assessment system driven on verb-outcomes.
  2. Develop students’ analytical and clinical orientation to real business environment.
  3. Enhancing the trust in the degree program among stakeholders, and also ensure future quality, and delivery process of the curriculum.

In the event of activity 01 fully completed it is expected;

  1. Students to clearly know and understand the direction of each course module and their interrelationships.
  2. Students to be versatile in adapting to different business environments, drawing solutions on a multidisciplinary platform.
  3. The degree offered by DMM to be one of the most sought-after degree programs.

Current Status

Workshops to identify broad course modules and broad verb outcome based check list development were conductedwith industry leads.

Activity 02: Widening the delivery scope of study programme with Learning Management System (LMS) and integrate with multidiscipline through Enterprise Resource Planning System (ERP).

Objectives

The proposal of activity two is with the following objectives:

  1. To build student centeredlearning and social constructivist environment, leading to flexible teaching, learning, and assessment.
  2. To widen the course dissemination options of DMM, and to widen its market segmentation.
  3. Deliver ERP based learning in understanding the wider scope of IT integrations to other disciplines, and to be ERP ready in going to the industry.

In completing the ‘LMS cum ERP base Teaching and Learning’, students should be able to understand and apply them self in a high IT oriented environment, and should be able to grasper the different IT applications under different disciplines. And, students should also have a wider choice in following their course modules, such as online learning and assessment.

Activity 03 : Crafting a new soft skills qualification known as Certified Professional Marketing Graduates (CPMG), in uniquely positioning DMM graduates as strategists.

Objectives

The ultimate objective of CPMG is to create a broad skilled graduate,equipped with an additional professional qualification known as CPMG, well accepted and known by the industry. The specific objectives of CPMG are;

  1. Development of undergraduate skills vis-à-vis to the industry requirements.
  2. Initiate a comprehensive soft skills development plan leading to the accreditation of DMM graduates as CPMG in addition to the degree certification.
  3. Build a brand equity that facilitates our graduates to effectively counter and compete with any existing professional marketing qualification.


At the end of the successful certification of CPMG, students should be;

 

  1. Skilled in communication and presentation, efficient team players and team leaders, demonstrate social grooming and etiquette, skilled in problem solving and creativity.
  2. Acquaint them self with all necessary soft skills demanded by the industry, in making them readily employable.
  3. To outstanding, a cut above the ordinary perceptions.


Current Status

Industry Leader Participative Cycle was conducted in order to identify the expectations of the industry from Department of Marketing Management Graduates.

Postgraduate Research Programs

The HETC QIG Window 3 grant was awarded to Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya for implementation and development of innovative postgraduate research programmes promoting economic development, improvement of well-being of the people and environmental sustenance in Sri Lanka. This will enable to provide postgraduate training within the country to produce much needed expertise in various fields to contribute and lead in major development activities in Sri Lanka.

Further a Central Equipment Laboratory was established to share the equipment among research groups at the Faculty of Science. The Vice Chancellor of the University readily granted Rs. 12 Million for the renovation of the space allocated and to purchase most wanted equipments for the ongoing projects at the Faculty which are already housed at the Centre. The equipment that will be procured through HETC –Window 3 grant and other grants in future will also be housed at the Central Laboratory.
