Clinical Skills Unit

Learning clinical skills is an essential component of a medical curriculum. Most of the clinical skills are learned by examining patients. How ever some clinical skills like cardio-respiratory resuscitation is difficult to teach with real patients. Some other procedures like assessing child birth need to be learned properly before attending to real patients.


Clinical Trial Unit

Computer Centre

The Centre is actively involved in training students and both academic and non-academic staff in the use of computers. It has 40 terminals, run as a Local Area Network, as well as e-mail and Internet facilities. Short courses and workshops on Computer Literacy are run by the Centre, giving hands-on training to all participants.



English Language Unit

English Language Unit of the Faculty of Medicine caters to all language needs of the students.The English Intensive course is one of the major conducts of the unit which aims at learner centered language teaching.



Gastroenterology Research Laboratory

The Gastroenterology Research Laboratory of the Department of Physiology is a modern and well-equipped laboratory,located at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya.This is a self funded laboratory.The laboratory charges a fee for the investigations provided.The maintenance and expansion of the laboratory is carried with the funds generated by the laboratory,research grants and donations.



Liver Transplant Unit



Medical Education Centre

The staff of MEC is supported by many academic staff from other departments, who have a special interest and commitement to Medical Education. MEC runs short workshops on various importent aspects of Medical Education, for academic staff within the Faculty, as well as the extended Faculty.


Medical Library

The Medical Library supports the instructional and research information needs of the students and academic staff by developing and preserving collection of books, periodicals and other information resources and creating appropriate environment for the use of these resources and services.



Molecular Medicine Unit

The Molecular Medicine Unit (MMU) at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya was established for furthering molecular studies on major infectious and vector-borne diseases of Sri Lanka, and provision of DNA based parentage and forensic testing.



Thalassaemia Unit

The patients with thalassaemia major have always had a bad deal in Sri Lanka. Most patients do not get adequate amounts of blood transfusions. They have almost never got adequate chelation. Most of them are treated like out casts in their villages and even when they come for medical treatment are not very welcome by the medical staff.



Tropical Medicine & Int. Health

The CTMIH was set up in early 1999 with the objective of developing the field of Tropical Medicine in Sri lanka, by conducting teaching and training programmes for health personal, and developing research in this field, in collaboration with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, UK.
