Clinical Trial UnitLearning clinical skills is an essential component of a medical curriculum. Most of the clinical skills are learned by examining patients. How ever some clinical skills like cardio-respiratory resuscitation is difficult to teach with real patients. Some other procedures like assessing child birth need to be learned properly before attending to real patients. |

Medical Education Centre The staff of MEC is supported by many academic staff from other departments, who have a special interest and commitement to Medical Education. MEC runs short workshops on various importent aspects of Medical Education, for academic staff within the Faculty, as well as the extended Faculty. |

The Centre is actively involved in training students and both academic and non-academic staff in the use of computers. It has 40 terminals, run as a Local Area Network, as well as e-mail and Internet facilities. Short courses and workshops on Computer Literacy are run by the Centre, giving hands-on training to all participants. . |

The patients with thalassaemia major have always had a bad deal in Sri Lanka. Most patients do not get adequate amounts of blood transfusions. They have almost never got adequate chelation. Most of them are treated like out casts in their villages and even when they come for medical treatment are not very welcome by the medical staff. |
