Professor Sarath Amunugama, assumes duties as Vice-Chancellor of University of Kelaniya
His Excellency the President has appointed Professor Sarath Amunugama as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya for the next three years with immediate effect. Professor Sarath Amunugama, an old boy of Kigswood College Kandy, commenced his higher studies at the University of Peradeniya and pursued further at University of Sorbonne in Paris where he obtained his Masters and the PhD and joined the University of Kelaniya as a Lecturer in French in 1980. He held the administrative posts of Head of Department of Modern Languages and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities in the same University for several years before assuming duties as founder Vice-Chancellor of the newly established University of the Visual and Performing Arts in 2005 for three years. Professor Amunugama was honoured by the Government of France by conferring the title of Chevalier for Academic Excellence in 1998.
