Research Centre for Social Sciences RCSS
Objective of the Research Centre The broad objective of the RCSS is to Encourage and coordinate multidisciplinary Policy- oriented research on Social Sciences as well as on issues of national importance. Specifically the Centre will: Encourage academic staff of the faculty of Social Science to conduct research in their own field of Studies. Provide financial assistance to the academics who are willing to conduct research. Motivation academic staff of the Faculty of Social Sciences to engage with research. Make arrangement to establish systematic linkages with local and international research Centers. Provide financial support to the researchers of the faculty of Social Sciences in their research publications. Establish a mechanism of publishing all research report and articles presented by the members of the faculty of Social Sciences. Mobilize expertise from the faculty of social Science, policy makers, business community and other institution (Academic And Non Academic)to undertake collaborative policy oriented research. Establish a system of conducting research in relevant fields on contract basis for government department or private institutions when requested. Establish a System of coordinating and documenting the various research projects undertaken by the RCSS. Establish a mechanism to exchange research personal with academic institutions. Research Support to ph.D. Candidates. The Centre expects to provide partial financial support to researchers who have registered for the degree of doctor of philosophy, in any subject within the sphere of Social Sciences. However this facility will be limited only to persons who are not provided with financial support from any other institution. Research Grants Apart from financial assistance to ph.D. Candidates, the Centre will provide assistance to research projects conducted by the academic staff of the faculty of Social sciences. Eligibility Criteria for Research Grants. Application should be member of the faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. All application should posses M.A or M.SSc. academic qualifications. Application Procedure Application for research grants will be entertained by the Centre during the first quarter of each calendar year. Prescribed application from is obtainable from the Research Centre office. Along with the application the candidates should submit a comprehensive document explaining his/ her research problem. This documents will be peer reviewed. The successful candidates will be invited to present a briefing on their intended research problem to an academic audience. In addition the candidate is follow the other formalities of the RCSS regarding the research grants. Short- Terms benefits provided by RCSS The Research Centre will provide on request, incidental expenses (per diem) to faculty members, in the event of academic presentations at International Conferences, Seminars or Workshops. Administrative Procedure of the RCSS Policy decisions related to RCSS are to be taken by the Board of Research of the faculty of Social Sciences. Board of Research of the faculty of Social Sciences consists of the faculty (Chairmen of the Board). The three coordinators of the RCSS, Heads of the Departments and two other members appointed by the faculty Board. Each and every decision taken by the Board of Research is to be forwarded to the faculty Board for approval. Administration of the RCSS comes under the supervision of the Faculty. Availability of Researchers The immediate source of researchers available to the RCSS are the scholars in the faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Kelaniya. Since the centre intends to adopt collaborative research, it will also consider component and qualified researchers from Government Departments and other related institution. When consultancy projects are involved, collaboration can be organized between scholars and private consultants within the umbrella of the RCSS. However, prior approval of the faculty Board should be taken in the case of implementing any collaborative research project. |
