Physical Education Teachers’ Training Programme (PETT) – 2017

The Physical Education Teachers’ Training Programme (PETT) – 2017 organized by the Department of Sports Science & Physical Education together with Recreation Management Students’ Association of the faculty of Social Sciences was successfully held on 14th & 15th of November 2017 at the Auditorium of the faculty of Social Sciences.
The main objective of this programme was to educate the schoolteachers about the latest trends in the field of Sports and Physical Education. The enhancement of the soft skills, management skills of the undergraduates of the Department of Sports Science & Physical Education and to develop contacts with the outsiders related to the field of Sports & Physical Education were among the other objectives.

During this training programme, Mr. K.D.U. Dhanawardana conducted a lecture on ‘Health related Fitness and Physical Education’. Lecturer W.M.A.M. Jayawadhane delivered a lecture on ‘event management’ and Dr. G.L.K. Ekanayake explained about the ‘Talent Detection, Identification and Development’. In addition, Dr. W.M.V.A. Wijayapala delivered a detailed lecture on ‘First Aid and Risk Management in Sports and Physical Education’ while Dr. E.A.S. Mangala Perera together with Dr. Rukmal Karunanayake conducted a lecture on ‘Scientific Approach of Sports and Physical Education’.

The Inauguration Ceremony of the programme was graced by Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Prof. Lakshman Senevirathne, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A.H.M.H. Abayarathne, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences and Senior Lecturer P.D.V. Charika Wickramarathne, Head of the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education. The programme was also participated by the academic staff members of the Department of the Sports Science & Physical Education and undergraduates.
The workshop was participated by 25 schoolteachers from the Kelaniya region. It was indeed a new experience for the schoolteachers who teach the Sports & Physical Education subject in the schools.
