The University of Kelaniya has once again etched its name in sporting history, securing the gold medal in the University Women's 10m Air Rifle Team Event at the Magam Sports Shooting Open Championship 2025, organised by the Magam Sports Shooting Club. The championship was held on 27th July 2025 at the Air Gun Shooting Range of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority Security Training School, Colombo.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formally signed between Janathakshan GTE Ltd and the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, on 29th July 2025, marking a key milestone in the implementation of the project titled "Fostering Climate Change Action Ambassadors: Empowering Youth for Climate Resilience (HSBC_CCAA)".

The Department of Finance, University of Kelaniya, signed a landmark MoU with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) on July 3, 2025, at CBSL, aiming to collaboratively promote financial literacy across the country. This partnership will pave the way for joint workshops, seminars, online courses, and community outreach programs focused on building essential financial knowledge and encouraging sound financial habits.

The Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies (PGIPBS) of the University of Kelaniya was known as the Vidyalankara Institute of Buddhist Studies since its inception on 23rd November 1975 until 30th December 1979. Then, it was affiliated to the Vidyalankara Campus of the University of Ceylon (Sri Lanka). Its present name, status, and structure derived from the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies Ordinance No.8 of 1977, which came into operation on 1st January 1980.

The Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology (PGIAR) was established on the 1st January 1986, by order dated 18th December 1985, under section 24A of the Universities Act No. 16 of 1978 by the University Grants Commission. The PGIAR is a Postgraduate Institute of the University of Kelaniya. It is the prime institution for postgraduate studies and research in archaeology and subjects related to archaeology in the country.
