The celebration of the International Day of the Intangible Cultural Heritage 2025, organized by the University of Kelaniya, was successfully held on October 17, 2025, at the K2-003 Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences, under the patronage of Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya.
The fourth season of the Polonnaruwa Archaeology, Anthropology, and Urban Landscape Project took place in Polonnaruwa from August 12 to September 7, 2025. This season's focus was on using archaeological and anthropological methodologies to better understand the Polonnaruwa Kingdom's urban landscape.
The official inauguration ceremony of the 6th International Conference on Applied and Pure Sciences (ICAPS 2025), organised by the Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya, was held on the 10th of October 2025, at the A8 Auditorium of the Faculty of Science.
The “Science in Nature” Photography Exhibition, organized by the Faculty of Science, in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Department of Drama, Cinema and Television (Faculty of Humanities), and the Arts Council of the University of Kelaniya, was successfully held on 10th October 2025 at the Faculty of Science premises.
The University of Kelaniya proudly secured 2nd place at the Target Sprint Shooting Competition – 2025, organized by the Academic Air Arms Association and held on the 4th and 5th of October 2025 at the Air Gun Shooting Range Grounds of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority – Security Training School, Colombo 02.

The Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies (PGIPBS) of the University of Kelaniya was known as the Vidyalankara Institute of Buddhist Studies since its inception on 23rd November 1975 until 30th December 1979. Then, it was affiliated to the Vidyalankara Campus of the University of Ceylon (Sri Lanka). Its present name, status, and structure derived from the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies Ordinance No.8 of 1977, which came into operation on 1st January 1980.

The Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology (PGIAR) was established on the 1st January 1986, by order dated 18th December 1985, under section 24A of the Universities Act No. 16 of 1978 by the University Grants Commission. The PGIAR is a Postgraduate Institute of the University of Kelaniya. It is the prime institution for postgraduate studies and research in archaeology and subjects related to archaeology in the country.
